Accurately label specimens

SATO’s medical device management solution leverages RFID technology to extend capabilities originally developed for document management—such as access control, location tracking, and visualization of usage history—to medical devices like catheters. By using RFID labels, tasks such as inspection, inventory checks, and usage history recording can be automated and streamlined, significantly reducing the operational workload on site.

At the blood donation venue, donor information is identified using wristbands issued on-site with barcodes or QR codes. A PJM RFID label is then issued and applied to each blood donation bag, securely linking the donor ID with the bag ID. The bags are then placed into a transport container, and shipment preparation is completed simply by batch-scanning them with a tunnel reader. This significantly improves both the accuracy and the speed of the operation.

If PJM RFID tags are attached to blood donation bags, the receiving process can be completed with a single batch scan. During blood product preparation, a dedicated PJM RFID label can be issued and linked to the original donation bag information, enabling highly accurate traceability. Furthermore, by using PJM RFID–compatible refrigerators and freezers, inventory can be monitored in real time, and automated alerts can be enabled for improved safety and control.

When a blood donation bag arrives at a blood center, a PJM RFID tag allows the acceptance process to be completed with a single scan. After blood components are processed, a dedicated RFID label is issued and attached to the product, linking it to the donor bag information to ensure accurate traceability. From inventory management and order processing to delivery and temperature control, the entire workflow can be automated and fully visible.
