PJM RFID to manage blood bag tracing

At the blood donation venue, donor information is identified using wristbands issued on-site with barcodes or QR codes.

A PJM RFID label is then issued and applied to each blood donation bag, securely linking the donor ID with the bag ID.

The bags are then placed into a transport container, and shipment preparation is completed simply by batch-scanning them with a tunnel reader.

This significantly improves both the accuracy and the speed of the operation.

Benefits

What is PJM RFID?

PJM (Phase Jitter Modulation) RFID is a high-speed, high-precision RFID technology compliant with ISO 18000-3 Mode 2.

  • Up to 600 tags read per second
  • Stable reading performance even in metallic, water, and stacked conditions
  • Scanning is possible without worrying about tag orientation (3D reading)
  • Label material for radiation sterilization
  • Operates in cryogenic conditions:
    • C-chip series: down to –40°C
    • D-chip series: down to –80°C
  • NFC-enabled and readable with smartphones
  • Supports ISBT 128-compliant data recording

Positive donor identification for blood safety

Donors are identified using wristbands printed with barcodes or QR codes. Clear identification at the time of blood collection prevents mix-ups and supports safe and reliable blood management.

Accurate blood bag identification for end-to-end traceability

A PJM RFID label is issued and applied to each blood donation bag, securely linking the scanned donor ID with the bag ID. This single label enables consistent, end-to-end tracking from the donor site to the blood center, significantly enhancing traceability.

Efficient and accurate dispatch with full traceability

Blood donation bags are consolidated into a transport container and batch-scanned using a tunnel reader. All bags can be read quickly and accurately, regardless of label orientation or positioning.
In addition, a PJM RFID temperature logger automatically records container temperature during transport, enabling integrated temperature monitoring, safety management, and record keeping.
