SATO Transitions Vietnam Factory to 100% Renewable Energy
Implementation of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs)
SATO Holdings Corporation proudly announces that its subsidiary, SATO Vietnam Co., Ltd., is transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy through implementing International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs).
SATO Vietnam is one of the SATO Group’s main manufacturing centers for printers and hand labelers that are shipped globally. Starting in 2025, the factory is shifting its entire annual electricity consumption—approximately 1,228 MWh1—to renewable energy through the I-RECs scheme.
Understanding I-RECs
I-RECs are globally recognized certificates that verify the origin and type of renewable energy. They are used in over 60 countries, including Japan and parts of Asia, South America and Africa. Moving forward, SATO will utilize I-RECs to achieve a reliable source of electricity from renewable energy sources in Vietnam and indirectly reduce CO2 emissions.
Commitment to sustainability
As part of its commitment to environmental conservation, the SATO Group actively promotes sustainability across all business operations. This initiative aligns with its environmental policy to “conserve energy used in our business activities while expanding the use of renewable energy to reduce our carbon footprint.”
SATO’s decarbonization goals
The SATO Group is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint and has set the following targets:
- By FY 2030, global Scope 1 and 2 emissions will be reduced by 50 percent (compared to FY 2016 levels).
- Achieve net-zero emissions across all operations by FY 2050.
- Cut Scope 3 emissions (throughout the supply chain) by 30 percent globally by FY 2030, relative to FY 2021 levels.

Looking ahead
SATO remains committed to reducing environmental risks, preventing pollution and improving sustainability across its supply chain. The company will continue efforts in resource and energy conservation, waste reduction, and the development of eco-friendly products and services. Additionally, SATO will work closely with local communities to support biodiversity and further contribute to a sustainable future.
