Position Summary: The Quality Assurance/Lab Technician will develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate laboratory testing needs for the overall SAL business. This position will also help with quality assurance initiatives and provide support as needed for other departments to ensure compliance with the SAL quality management system and customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for ensuring lab testing is performed and testing protocols are followed.
· Maintenance of lab testing equipment and ensuring equipment conditions and calibrations are current and maintained.
· Write, issue and update job aids, procedures, work instructions and other documents as needed by the department.
· Maintain impeccable records for test results, calibration, lab protocols, SDSs, equipment manuals, supply certificates and any other records related to the lab.
· Maintain lab equipment by performing recommended user service and cleaning protocols at frequencies recommended by the manufacturer or our programs.
· Develop good laboratory practice (GLP) against a recognized standard such as ISO17025.
· Interface with lab supply representatives and technical support, when needed.
· Troubleshoot any lab equipment issues, which may require collecting information from equipment manuals and manufacturers. Record measurements using several types of measuring and recording devices (including but not limited to equipment calibrations, filing retains, inventory, preparation of lab data sheets, and solution preparation)
· Provide subject matter expert knowledge, configuration and training on Quality software, databases, and calibration tooling.
· Develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to quality outputs.
· Design, run, test and upgrade manufacturing and quality processes.
· Provide quality assurance administration of validation protocols, programs, and reports for the following as needed.
· Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control.
· Take action in case of quality or performance failures.
· Support continuous improvement of all quality systems (CAPA, deviations, investigations, change control, returned goods, complaint handling, document/records control, quality agreements, vendor management, raw materials, validations, and quality systems related training) and make recommendations for improvements.
· Participate and/or own root cause analysis teams/initiatives.
· Selects, interprets, and applies quality management tools (such as Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, flowcharts, control charts, root cause analysis, PDCA, six sigma DMAIC model, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), statistical process control (SPC), brainstorming, affinity diagrams, 5Ss, Kanban and value stream mapping) in various situations.
· Contribute to engineering testing protocols and/or changes.
· Manage the supplier certificate of conformance program.
· Perform quality monitoring activities as needed.
· Provide updates to key performance indicators as directed.
· Assist in the development and facilitation of department training.
· Participate in audits by providing lab records and communicating any lab-related inquiries.
· Be an integral player in the company Safety Program.
· Assists in collection of samples and ensures all required samples are received on time. Supply specified materials as required or as directed.
Mandatory Qualifications:
· Associate degree in science or related field preferred; High school diploma or GED required.
· 1-3 years prior production/manufacturing experience OR 2+ years relevant lab technician experience
· Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong analytical skills
· Six Sigma certification preferred.
· Familiarity with lab safety
· Good analytical and creative problem-solving skills
· Ability to use tools and techniques to perform tests.
· Ability to read technical data and specifications.
· Possess analytical testing knowledge necessary to perform numerous varied quality control test procedures in a timely manner.
· Ability to write detailed test procedures, which describe the experimental operations necessary to test routine samples.
· Ability to make conforming/non-conforming decisions on all samples submitted to laboratory for analysis.
· Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
· Strong attention to detail, highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience in the label manufacturing industry a plus
· Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 preferred
