SATO announces agreement to purchase Walker Datavision

Singapore – SATO, a pioneer in the Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) industry and a leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions, announced today a definitive agreement to purchase one of the leading providers of data collection and identification technologies in New Zealand, Walker Datavision. Consequently, SATO New Zealand (SNZ) will take over all assets and business of Walker Datavision. The expected date of completion of the transaction is June 23, 2006.

Walker Datavision has been providing complete and best-in-class frontline data capture solutions and integrated services for many years. In New Zealand, it is a name that is respected and trusted in the industry. The acquisition will provide SNZ with the added capabilities for it to bring to market SATO’s DCS & Labelling Worldwide vision.

Toshihiro Waki, Managing Director of SATO International commented, “SATO is pleased to enter into this agreement to purchase the business of Walker Datavision, one of New Zealand’s foremost providers of AIDC solutions. Walker Datavision’s core competencies offer a strategic fit to SATO’s own DCS & Labelling solutions. We are looking forward to leveraging their expertise in thermal and thermal transfer print technology for variable print applications and unique integration capabilities. This acquisition will add impetus to our drive for growth in the Oceanic region and beyond.” Badi Ala’i, Managing Director overseeing both SATO Australia and SATO New Zealand added, “In New Zealand, this acquisition will stand SATO in good stead to be the leading provider of full-service AIDC solutions. Walker Datavision’s Frontline Consumables and Frontline Information Systems will be part of SNZ, operating as a separate division. SNZ will continue to use the recognized ‘Walker Datavision’ brand name.
